What is an Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships are a great way to combine practical work experience with a formal qualification.

The best part – you are paid to work and to study!

Gone are the days where you are confined to a classroom to learn your trade. Apprenticeships give you real, hands-on exposure to industry in a safe learning environment.

As an apprentice, you are partnered with a qualified tradesperson to show you everything you need to know about your new career. This ‘on-the-job’ training is coupled with formal study through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such as TAFE, to teach you the theory behind your new industry. There are no course fees payable by an apprentice – it’s free!

You can complete an apprenticeship as a full-time or part-time employee. In some cases, you can even start an apprenticeship while you are still at school! As a full-time apprentice, you will be fully qualified within 4 years and would have been paid in excess of $100,000 during that time!

Apprenticeships are perfect for school leavers, people re-entering the workforce or for those simply looking for a career change.

The qualification you achieve at the end of your apprenticeship can be used as ‘credit’ towards achieving a university degree. Similarly, many university graduates complete an apprenticeship to complement their degree with practical experience and training. The options are endless!

With over 500 occupations available through an apprenticeship or traineeship pathway, there are no limits to what you can achieve!
