You’ll learn practical skills on the job while working towards your qualification.
What’s the difference between landscaping and parks and gardens?
They’re related, but the work can be quite different.
Landscape construction is generally focused on creating and building outdoor spaces.
Depending on the job, that could include preparing sites, paving, building garden features, planting and other construction work.
Parks and gardens work is generally more focused on establishing and maintaining gardens, plants, lawns and green spaces.
The individual vacancy will explain which type of work is involved.
What does an apprentice do?
Depending on the role, you could spend your day:
- Preparing outdoor work areas
- Using hand and power tools
- Planting trees, shrubs and other plants
- Maintaining lawns and gardens
- Working with soil and turf
- Helping build landscape features
- Using outdoor equipment
- Keeping sites safe and organised
It’s practical work and usually involves spending plenty of time outside.
Do I need gardening or landscaping experience?
Not always.
For an entry-level apprenticeship, genuine interest and willingness to learn can be just as important.
Gardening at home, helping with outdoor projects, studying agriculture or construction subjects, or completing work experience can all be useful examples to include in an application.

You’ll be employed by CCGT and complete your day-to-day work with a Host Employer.
You’ll learn on the job, complete formal training and have CCGT there to support you throughout the apprenticeship.
